Over the last few years, I've invested an inordinate amount of money into my bed linen. Lovely flat sheets, silk pillowcases and handmade quilts all adorn my bed, but their good looks mask an ugly truth. The double bed that I share with my partner features four random pillows, all begged, borrowed and stolen from my parents' house. The bed frame is a cheap IKEA flat pack piece, and, until recently, our mattress was a lumpy, off-gassing number that cost less than a flight to Spain.
At the start of the year I decided it was time to make the cake as good as the icing, and set about hunting down the very best pillow to buy. I knew I wanted a down pillow, as I like my head to sink into it, rather than be supported. After a few weeks of research, I landed on Loaf's Easy Kip pillow.
Loaf Easy Kip Pillow: is it worth buying?
Loaf sell three different tiers of bedding. Easy Kip, Top Kip and Friendly Kip. Easy Kip is billed as the ‘perfect all-rounder’ and is filled with Hungarian goose feathers. Top Kip is the pricier older sister of Easy Kip, with a slightly more lightweight feel and improved breathability. The Friendly Kip range is filled with an allergy-friendly alternative to goose down.
In the end, I opted for a pair of the ‘Easy Kip’ pillows. The cover is made from 100% cotton (points for breathability), and is hypoallergenic thanks to a fabric structure that makes it impenetrable by dust mites. Inside the pillows, the filling is 85% Hungarian goose feather, 15% Hungarian goose down.
Occasionally, I've found that down and feather pillows can have a slightly ‘crunchy’ feel. However, Loaf's Easy Kip pillows are super soft. They're plump and robust looking when sitting on your bed, which gives it that hotel look, yet ‘sinky’ enough to satisfy me whilst sleeping. The pillows are made in Fife, Scotland and are machine washable at 40 degrees.
